Raglan Gun Aiming To Fire Again At Angle Park

By Stuart Turner

Unbeaten Raglan Gun may not prove to be another superstar for Kenneth Gill but he has put the spring back in the trainer’s step.

The impressive newcomer goes for a fourth straight victory in the Uncle Rob’s Pizza CTA Division (race 11, 515m) at Angle Park on Thursday.

Raglan Gun is the latest star from the kennel of Gill, who enjoyed short but spectacular success with ERNIE Bung Arrow.

The latter won 21 of 24 starts and was one of the country’s most exciting talents before his career was sadly ended prematurely by injury last year.

“What happened to ERNIE broke my heart,” Gill said. “Raglan Gun isn’t an ERNIE but he is certainly a nice pup.

“He still has ‘puppy-ish’ tendencies. He runs very wide (and) he needs to settle down, which hopefully he will.

“I’m sure he will run straight here and find his line from this box (and) I’m confident he can win again.”

A son of Pink Gun x Pink Rockstar, Raglan Gun’s best performance so far was a 30.23 victory over the 515m here last Monday.

Yoko Bale (box three) also won at Angle Park last Monday in a decent 30.22 and should provide the toughest opposition here, but Raglan Gun looks one of the day's best bets in this one.

Raglan Gun is among a number of in-form hopefuls in action at Thursday’s meeting.

Real Flash goes in race two fresh from his superb victory in the Group 2 WA Oaks last month.

Troy Murray’s impressive newcomer has four in a row and looks a great chance here from box one.

Vadim Roz’s quality sprinter Gun McBain  looks a great chance to make it six consecutive wins in race seven over 515m.

He has an excellent record from out wide so box eight should suit and the veteran looks a cut above these.

Southern Impress (box two) goes for a fifth straight victory in race five but faces a quality field including Danyo’s Dabby.

The latter won here last start in 30.11 and looks the best bet from box four.
