Fletcher Hopes For Another Fantastic Night

By Stuart Turner

Unbeaten Fantastic Tail was a stunning last start winner but owner-trainer Jason Fletcher thinks she has her work cut out to triumph again at Monday’s Wentworth Park meeting.

The boom pup, who produced a terrific 29.59 effort over the 520m at Dapto last month, jumps from box seven in the Ladbrokes.com.au Sprint Series heat (race seven, 520m).

Fantastic Tail has not run since that win on May 14, which made it three successful starts for the daughter of Goodesy and Light Fantastic, due to injury

Fletcher said she is now “100 per cent” but thinks lightly raced New Regime (box five), who ran 29.47 over 515m at Unibet Gardens last month, is a big threat here.

“That’s as good as running 29.59 at Dapto in my book,” Fletcher said.

“29.59 was a good effort from Tail but she had box one there.

“From the rails I would be confident, but this draw looks tough.”

Fantastic Tail’s winning time at Dapto last start was just 0.15 off Double Twist’s track record.

It continued a perfect record at 520m for the impressive newcomer, but Fletcher believes she will not be a sprinter for long.

“I’m pretty sure she will eventually be a stayer,” he said. “She is very strong and looks like she can run further long-term.

“Her Dapto time was about right for what she was trialling.

“I’m trying to build up her racing experience at Wentworth Park before she goes further.”

Kennelmate Fantastic Roxy ran 30.33 over the 520m to win on debut at Dapto on May 28 and looks the pick from box four in race nine.

Ritza Ruby (box six) ran a strong 731m last start at Gosford and can overcome some solid stayers in race five.

Gevalia has run decent times over the 520m recently and with the inside draw can win race eight.

Fantastic Tail and Fantastic Roxy are among an excellent litter which also includes Fantastic Skye, who also won impressively over the 520m at Dapto last month.

Fletcher said all three look decent but believes they are a notch below older kennelmates Fantastic Sid and Fantastic Spiral, who have been two of NSW’s standout sprinters over the last year.

“I’ve been lucky to have a great brood bitch (Light Fantastic) who has thrown me these good pups,” he said. “I’m breaking three more in at the moment and I’m hoping we will get a few more in the future.

“For sure, it’s an exciting time.”
