King Hopes Miss Sueko Can Reign In Oaks

By Jess Moran

Miss Sueko has been the nearly girl of NSW greyhound racing in recent times but looks primed to win tonight's terrific-looking Dapto Supporters Club Oaks Final (520m).

The multiple Group finalist was the fastest qualifier in last week's heats, clocking an impressive 29.69.

Last month’s Group 3 Richmond Oaks runner-up has been among the state’s most impressive performers since debuting in January 2014, securing 11 wins and 13 minor placings from 40 starts.

Trainer Justin King believes his greyhound has now overcome an injury that kept her off the track for nearly two months at the start of the year and can defeat a field including multiple Group winner Rue De Kahn (pictured, pink rug) and the dangerous Uno Suzie.

“It's taken a little while but she is starting to show her old form,” King said.  "She had a slight tear in her hip support but it's healed well.

“She has two Wentworth Park wins since coming back and had some good runs in the past few weeks.

"Last week she just showed what she is capable of when she is fully fit and firing."

It should be a terrific decider of the $7000-to-the-winner series, with most of the field having claims.

Rue De Kahn (box seven) will likely start favourite and is in great form, with five wins and five minor placings from her last 11 starts.

Box six’s Uno Suzie clocked 29.99 winning here last week, while the lightly raced Shady Ace (box eight) ran 29.85 in her heat and looks a tempting roughie.

King believes Miss Sueko can still win the final despite drawing unfavourably in the squeeze box.

"She can both ping the lids and come from behind if she needs to,” he said.

"She will just need to stay out of trouble going through the first turn. It really won't matter whether she is in front or behind - as long as she isn't touched she'll be in it."

Miss Sueko was runner-up to Rue De Kahn in the Richmond Oaks final but King is confident of turning the tables here.

"She beat Rue De Kahn last week convincingly and with her drawn out in the seven above us, it has really opened up the race," he said.

"Uno Suzie drawing box six has also thrown a spanner in the mix. You've now got the three likely favourites drawn together in the middle of the track."

Also in action at Dapto on Thursday is Jason Fletcher’s Fantastic Roxy, a littermate to talented duo Fantastic Spiral and Fantastic Sid.

After a debut win last week, the promising chaser has drawn box six in race three.

Jason Magri’s Invictive aims for her third straight win in race eight after a super win at Bulli last Friday night.

Race seven also looks terrific, with country track specialist Knocka's Return looking the pick in box two.
