Guymer Is Winning Plenty

By Jess Moran

Terry Guymer hopes his kennel star Pearls A Plenty can continue her good form since a return from an injury layoff in the Tweed to Grafton final at the Northern Rivers track this evening.

Pearls A Plenty was injured March before making a successful return to racing at Albion Park two weeks ago with a best of the night performance.

Last week, Pearls A Plenty continued her comeback with an impressive 11 length all the way victory at Tweed Heads in the heats of the 1-4 Wins Tweed to Grafton heats.

The greyhound now heads to Grafton for the final and Guymer is confident that she can replicate her run in the final.

"The win at Tweed certainly wasn't unexpected because she's always shown a lot of promise," the trainer said.

"To come back from injury and win well at Albion Park before doing what she did at Tweed is great.

"I don't think she has much competition in the race I reckon she should be able to win."

Pearls A Plenty jumps from box five in the final which is race seven on the card.

Despite never having seen Grafton before, Guymer believes that both the track and box will suit his chaser.

"I think with the big straights Grafton will suit her, or at least I hope it does," Guymer said.

"Box five is always a pretty bad draw but being a good beginner it shouldn't hinder her too much."

Pearls A Plenty is out of Bay of Pearls by Magic Sprite and does not look to be the only handy greyhound out of the litter.

Guymer also trains Bay of Sprite who has a solid record of 11 wins from 27 starts and has also had recent success at Tweed Heads and Albion Park.

Another litter-mate is Renouf's Magic who is trained by Elaine Klassen. It has won his past five out of six starts at Ipswich and Albion Park in smart fashion.

Guymer says all the greyhounds are very similar, but Renouf's Magic and Pearls A Plenty are the best of the litter.

"It's a very smart litter and a lot of them have been going really well recently," he said.

"I would probably have to say that Renouf's Magic is slightly better than Pearls A Plenty at the moment but they are both very talented.

Guymer, who has been training for more than 44 years says Pearls A Plenty is currently the best greyhound in his kennel.

"She is the best I've got at the moment. Her sister Bay of Sprite is handy but Pearls a Plenty has more potential."

Also on the card at Grafton tonight is Black Audit in race one who is looking to back up after a slick victory last start.

The greyhound had an impressive debut at Lismore and is drawn favourably out wide again in box six.

Spring Planet is searching for his fifth win in seven starts in race five but will meet a flying Carlyle Tycoon who has won his past two in row.
