Greyhound Racing NSW has finalised the allocation of TAB race dates for the 2015/16 racing season.
The allocation will result in changes to the schedule for metropolitan racing as well for the Hunter and the Northern Rivers.
The major changes include:
• Metropolitan A2 meetings at Wentworth Park to move from Friday night to Wednesday night.
• TAB race meetings at Bulli to move from Wednesday night to Friday night.
• Removing TAB C race meetings at Wentworth Park on a Monday night and redistributing the races across the A1 and A2 meetings at the venue by running 11 race cards each week.
• Grafton to replace Wentworth Park C meetings in the Monday night timeslot.
• Removing TAB C race meetings at Maitland currently in a Wednesday twilight timeslot on Sky 2 and spreading these races across the remaining Hunter (Gosford, Maitland and The Gardens) meetings by running 11 race cards each week.
Although the new calendar sees a reduction in the total number of race meetings, this will be mitigated by holding 11 race cards, when nominations allow, at Wentworth Park, Gosford, Maitland and The Gardens.
This will result in the total level of racing remaining steady in these regions.
The move of Wentworth Park A2 meetings to Wednesday night aims to alleviate some of the current nomination flow issues and perceived racing issues at the venue.
The change also provides consistency in racing at the venue and provides a larger gap between the A2 and A1 meetings. This will hopefully assist the club with its marketing of the venue and provides trainers with the ability to nominate greyhounds across both meetings in a given week.
The decision to move Bulli to the vacated Friday night timeslot was motivated by a desire to minimise change across the racing calendar and to provide an adequate gap between racing at Goulburn and Bulli on a week-to-week basis.
A feature that is returning for the 2015/16 racing calendar is the scheduling of some of the biggest provincial races in NSW to be staged on a Friday night.
One of the drivers behind this year’s racing calendar was to endeavour to provide clubs with as much consistency of racing as possible.
The new dates, which are still awaiting approval from Racingcorp and are subject to change, will come into effect on 1 July 2015.
