Aussie Noorumba Searching For Win In Howard-Ashton

By Jess Moran

Bill Wudarczyk is hoping his greyhound Aussie Noorumba can score him the biggest win of his career in the Group 3 Howard Ashton Final at Angle Park on Thursday night.

Aussie Noorumba will head into the final tomorrow as the likely favourite after a strong win in his semi-final last week.

"It was the first time he had drawn box one last week so I didn't really know what to expect but he managed to lead all the way, so I was thrilled," Wudarczyk said.

The South-Australian bred greyhound has drawn box four in the final, a draw Wudarczyk believes will be challenging for Aussie Noorumba to overcome.

"Box four will test him. If it just came down to ability, he would probably win but the draw makes it a lot more difficult for him," the trainer said.

"He's slowly learning to handle awkward draws though.

"In the beginning of his career he would have struggled a lot with it because of his lack of field experience. Now he's much better."

Mojito Mayhem (box two) was the other semi-final winner from last week and will be one of Aussie Noorumba's main contenders after a favourable inside draw.

"It is a very even race and I think any of the dogs in it could win," Wudarczyk said.

"I think the Victorian dog (Mojito Mayhem) could easily win especially from box two, as well as Lucy Fergo who has also come up with a good draw."

Wudarczyk owns Aussie Noorumba alongside three friends and says it would be great feeling to win a Group status race.

"It would be an absolute thrill for me as trainer to win a race like this and I think the other owners would also love it."

Also on the card at Angle Park on Thursday night is the return Kalden Legenda whose ten race winning streak was broken last week after finishing a gallant second behind Galaxy Snow.

He will be hoping to make amends from box seven in race nine - the Active Orthopaedics Veterans Stakes (515m).

Another greyhound to keep an eye on is the Kenneth Trowbridge-trained Footluce Diva (box five) who will be looking to register her fourth win on the trot in the second heat of the Shane McQueen Series (600m).
