Jingjing Looking To Strike Gold Tonight At Gosford

By Jess Moran

Group 1 finalist Jingjing will be looking to score the biggest win of her brief career in tonight’s $10,000 Ladbokes Gosford Goldmine.

The CHRIS Nutt-trained greyhound was sensational in her heat win last week, leading all the way to win by seven lengths in a time of 29.91.

Nutt was particularly thrilled with the run, given the fact it was her first look at the track.

"I threw her in the deep-end taking her to a track she hadn't seen before but her run was fantastic," Nutt said.

"She had hurt her chest muscle at Wentworth Park in her last start so she had spent 11 days on the lead before the heat and hadn't done much work so she was fresh.

"I knew if she could be near her best last Tuesday she would go well and she obviously did."

Jingjing (pictured) has drawn box seven in the final tonight, a box which Nutt believes she should handle comfortably.

"With her it really doesn't matter what box she comes up with because she's a pretty good beginner and usually puts herself in the race straight away," Nutt said.

The trainer holds high hopes for Jingjing's chances in tonight's final but admits her competition must be respected, with Nutt pointing to Camden Valleyway as the main danger.

Camden Valleyway was the fastest qualifier from last week's heats and ran a best of the night time of 29.63, at what was her first look at the track.

She has drawn box four for the final, a box from which she has a good record of two wins and a second from three starts.

Last week's other heat winner Two Parts Freak is another greyhound to keep an eye on the final, drawing box six.

Two Parts Freak has never been drawn wider than box five and a big question will be whether she can manage an outside draw.

After tonight's Goldmine Final, Nutt is unsure about where Jingjing will head to next up.

"I know the Peter Mosman is coming up but I'm not sure whether I'll put her in it just yet," the trainer admitted.

"With the likes of Fernando Bale coming up for it, it looks like it might be a tough series.

"But in saying that, you can't win sitting at home so I'll have to see. I might look at some other age-restricted races around the place or I might just keep her going around Wentworth Park in some graded races. Nothing is set in stone at the moment."

The Ladbrokes Gosford Goldmine Final is race six on the card tonight and jumps at 8:21pm (AEST).
