Stars Head To Bulli For Cup Heats

By Jess Moran

A star-studded list of names will head to Bulli this Friday night to take part in the heats of the Group 2 Cyril Rowe Gold Cup.

Last week’s Richmond Oaks winner Rue De Kahn, Dubbo Gold Cup winner Fancy Top and Maitland Cup victor Spacecraft are just some of the stand-out greyhounds competing in the five heats.

Spacecraft's trainer Lorraine Atchison has high hopes for her charge, who jumps from box six in heat two.

"We've got him feeling as good as he ever had," Atchison said.

"There is nice run into the first turn at Bulli, so I'm hoping he can sort himself out from the six and be in the lead going through the turn.

"He's running some really great times so I expect him to be right in it."

Alongside Spacecraft in heat two is Dubbo Gold Cup winner Fancy Top (box one) and veteran chaser Knocka's Return, who has an outstanding record at Bulli with 10 career wins at the track.

Fantastic Sid, trained by Jason Fletcher, will be hoping to win another Group title for the in-form kennel after his brother Fantastic Spiral took out the Group 3 Nowra Summer Puppy Classic earlier this month.

He jumps from box two in the last heat of the night and Fletcher is confident of a big show from the young greyhound.

"It's a tough heat with a lot of quality greyhounds but he's come up with a good box and goes really well at Bulli so I'm hoping he can do well," he said.

"This is definitely a step-up from the dogs he has been racing recently, so he will have to run a big race to qualify for the final."

Natural Player (box one), La Grand Logie (box eight) and Winsome Mission (box three) look to be Fantastic Sid's main dangers in what looks like one of the toughest heats of the night.

A notable absence from the fields for the heats is Fantastic Sid's litter-mate Fantastic Spiral. Fletcher has confirmed that the greyhound will head to Victoria to trial in preparation for a crack at the Group 1 Maturity Classic at The Meadows.

In heat one, multiple Group race finalist Star Torana (box one) will be looking to finally break through for her first major win.

She was runner-up in last week's Richmond Oaks and has also made appearances in the Group 3 New Sensation and Ladies Bracelet finals.

She will face an in-form Adam Handler (box seven) from the Anthony Azzopardi kennels. The greyhound has had some well-fought wins at Wentworth Park in recent weeks and looks like a danger from out wide.

In heat three, My Boy Snoop (box eight) will be looking for back-to-back titles after taking out last year's version of the race.

Gun youngsters Winsome Prince (box three) and Paua to Roar (box six) also feature in heat three.

Rue De Kahn will head into heat four as a short-priced favourite after drawing box four. She will be looking to continue her terrific run of form which saw her take out last week's Richmond Oaks final.

Alongside Rue De Kahn in heat four is Winsome Jacko (box five), the Christine Proctor-trained Master Gee (box six) and Rare Pearl (box eight).
