Screen Test Looking For A Good Display

By Jess Moran

After knocking on the door at his debut start at Dapto last week, Screen Test looks to register his first win at Dapto in a great card of racing at the Illawarra track on Thursday night.

In his first start at Dapto last week, the Pauline Moran-trained greyhound was hot on the heels of the leader throughout the entire race but faded late to finish second.

Moran believes that with some experience at the track under his belt, Screen Test should improve this week jumping from box two in race seven - the second heat of the South Coast Challenge Sprint Series (520m).

"Considering it was his first look at the track, his run was very good," Moran said.

"I'm expecting him to come out a lot better than he did last week."

Screen Test has proven to be a consistent performer recently, with the greyhound never out of placings in his past 12 starts.

Moran believes his racing style has been the key to his good record.

"I've only had him for a few weeks but from what I've seen, he's a good beginner who likes to get out in front and go," she said.

"He's not the strongest dog but he is very honest. If he can go well at the start he's hard to beat."

Moran believes the inside draw will favour Screen Test but he will need to overcome some tough competition, such as No Jockey Needed (box one).

"He likes to be drawn near the rails so that's a big positive but the dog on his inside will be his biggest threat."

Moran also trains Screen Test's litter-mate Temple King, who goes in race six at Dapto on Thursday night.

"They are both very similar in their racing style but Screen Test probably has a slight edge over Temple King."

In the first heat of the South Coast Challenge Sprint series, King Richard trained by Anthony Azzopardi looks like the one to beat with very good wins in his two previous starts.

Prince Omar (box eight) and Bedazzled Bead (box seven) will duke it out for the lead in race six - the World Famous Dapto Dogs 1-3 Wins Final (520m).

Kiwi Nugget in race four has hit a purple patch of form and will be looking to extend its record to four straight wins.
