Kalden Legenda Looking To Continue Hot-Streak

By Jess Moran

Veteran greyhound Kalden Legenda will be looking to notch up an incredible 11th straight win at Angle Park this Thursday night.

The four-and-a-half year old greyhound will jump from box six in the first race of the evening - the McQueens Tavern Veterans Stakes (515m).

Trainer Ben Rawlings is hopeful the greyhound can keep his streak alive, but believes it may be one of his toughest tasks to date.

"He had last week off after he pulled up a bit a stiff from his last start. It was nothing serious, but being fresh this week may cause him some problems," he said.

"The box isn't ideal but as long as he doesn't bomb the start which could happen after the week off, he should be able to overcome it."

Rawlings believes his main competition will be Avid Tyson, who will jump from box eight.

"That greyhound has a bit of pace but tends to stay wide so he should give Kalden Legenda a good run underneath," the trainer said.

"In this field, if Kalden Legenda can get to the front I think it will be a case of 'catch me if you can'."

While the trainer admits that Kalden Legenda's streak is mostly due to a combination of ability and luck, Rawlings also believes that his greyhound's young-at-heart mentality also plays a big part.

"Kalden Legenda may be four-and-a-half but I think in his mind he believes he is three-and-a-half," Rawlings said.

"He had a year off due to a serious injury so in a way I think it has actually given him an extra year of racing."

Also engaged at Angle Park on Thursday is Rawlings other in-form greyhound Blurred Lines.

Chasing his fourth straight win last week, Blurred Lines was desperately unlucky at the start but managed to fight his way through the field into third place.

Rawlings believes that the greyhound will be able to make amends this week from box three in race eight, the Kwik Kopy Norwood Free For All (515m).

"He just couldn't cross last week but the move inside on Thursday will really suit him," he said.

Also engaged in race eight is the Terrance Cahalan-trained Alderley Reform who will searching for his ninth win from his past 12 starts.

One of the other highlights on the card at Angle Park on Thursday are the semi-finals of the Group 3 Howard Ashton Classic.

In the first semi-final, Girl From Alice (box five) and Lucy Fergo (box six) will both be looking to secure their third win a row and progress through to the $25,000 final next week.

The second semi-final looks like a much more open affair, with Lady Xanthe (box four) and Mrs Bubbles (box five) looking like some of the main contenders.
