Yesterday's Dapto Puppy Auction proved a money-spinning affair.
Hundreds of would-be buyers attended the event at the Illawarra club, aiming to get their hands on a possible future champion.
Pups from successful sires including El Grand Senor, Collision, Spring Gun, Fabregas and Collision were among those available for buyers.
The Kinloch Brae-Paua To Erupt litter was heavily in demand, with five of their pups selling for a combined total of $48,800.
One sold for $22,000 – the highest amount paid for an individual greyhound at the event.
A member of the renowned Irish Frightful Flash Kennels, Kinloch Brae has been a successful sire in recent years.
Paua To Erupt was a city class greyhound for Nowra Hill trainer Steve White and was a daughter of notable sire Spiral Nikita.
The Swift Fancy-Tonto tears partnership was also popular, with two pups from that combination going for a combined $18,500.
Collision was again a sire attracting attention, with five pups he had with Dusty Retreat selling for a total of $25,300.
Seven pups from Collision x Magic Capers went for a total of $35,500 at the event, which was open to greyhounds whelped between July 1 and December 31, 2014.
In all about $670,000 was generated through the auction, with 303 greyhounds sold at an average price of $2,180.
Club chairman Jack Primmer said it was worth keeping an eye on some of the more unheralded pups sold.
“Bertacious Bee won last year’s $75,000 Puppy Classic,” he said. “I think he sold here for about $800.
“I’m sure there’ll be a few gems come out of it.”
Greyhounds sold at the Dapto auction, the 17th in its history, are eligible for the lucrative Dapto Puppy Classic Series.
The $170,000 series features 297m, 520m and 600m finals between December 2016 and February 2017.
