Clarification On Bones

By GRNSW

Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) would like to clarify the use of bones for greyhounds following a misleading post on Facebook yesterday.

The GRNSW policy on lures prohibits the use of any, animal carcass or part of an animal as a lure in greyhound training, education or racing. The policy does not deal with greyhound diet and does not restrict what a greyhound may consume as an ordinary meal.

Simply put bones are able to be given to greyhounds as food at any stage of their racing careers, however, bones or any part of an animal are not able to be used as a lure for training purposes.

The only exception to this rule is the use of tanned and professionally processed animal skins for the purposes of trialling or educating greyhounds. Where a tanned and professionally processed skin is used, evidence of where it was sourced must be produced to a person authorised by GRNSW for immediate inspection upon request.

It is also permissible for a lure to contain an audible device.

Further information about the GRNSW policy on lures is available by clicking here.

GRNSW encourages anyone who has any questions about new policies or what is allowed to be undertaken as part of the general care of a greyhound to contact the organisation direct on (02) 8767 0500.
