Winsome Senor Aiming To Double Up At Maitland

By Stuart Turner

Winsome Senor has endured a rollercoaster career but his latest upswing in fortunes can continue at Thursday’s Maitland meeting.

The greyhound jumps from box five in the Ladbrokes Monthly Medal Stakes (565m) aiming to back up after a great triumph at the same track last Friday night.

Trained by Melinda Finn, Winsome Senor ran just 0.05 outside Knocka’s Return’s track record while winning over the 565m on Maitland Gold Cup night.

That victory in a time of 31.60 took his record to 10 wins and 11 minor placings from 38 starts and left Finn delighted.

“He means a lot to us,” she said post-race.

“He’s been through a lot – he had a bad hock injury which hampered him – but he always put in a good race.

“This was a great win and hopefully there’s more to come.

“Hopefully he can come back and get the track record.”

A son of El Grand Senor x Winsome Shiraz, much-travelled Winsome Senor made his debut way back in August 2013.

He spent three months racing in WA last year before a bad hock injury sidelined him for six months.

He has been running solidly if not spectacularly in NSW since returning in March and on current form looks head and shoulders above these.

The greyhound is better with an outside draw but looks capable of winning from the squeeze box here.

Anthony Azzopardi’s My Boy Snoop (box four, pictured with yellow rug) is always a threat but would be stronger from the inside.

He also finished more than six lengths behind Winsome Senor at Maitland last Friday night.

Judith Fisher’s Good Judge (box one) is a consistent performer and looks well drawn to take out race five, while One Samuel looks a strong contender from box two in the sixth.

Gunfighter was an impressive maiden winner at Maitland last week and can win the third race from box five.

Box two’s One Hill failed last start but should relish the slight drop in class and can triumph in a terrific-looking 10th and final race of the day.
