Resurgent Chica Heads Ladies Bracelet Field

By Stuart Turner

Group winners Chica Destacada, Rose of Galo and Rue De Kahn are among the headliners in this Saturday’s  Evans and Son Jewellers Ladies Bracelet (520m).

Four heats of the $25,000-to-the-winner Group 3 series take place at Wentworth Park as part of a mouth-watering night’s racing.

A resurgent Chica Destacada (pictured) is one to watch after she returned to form in style at Wentworth Park last Saturday night.

The two-time Group winner had not triumphed since January but scorched home over the 520m in an eye-catching 29.51.

She has not been handed the kindest draw in the fourth heat, however, as she will jump from box eight.

This race also features handy Victorian Spring Leaf and Senorita Pearl, who made it back-to-back victories at Wentworth Park last Saturday night with a terrific 29.60 win.

Last year’s Group 2 Black Top winner Rose of Galo, who was third in the 2014 Ladies Bracelet, jumps from box three in the first heat.

The Queenslander has been running solidly at Albion Park since returning from six months on the sidelines last month.

Dyna Nico, who finished third in the recent Golden Easter Egg decider at Wentworth Park, jumps from box four in the same heat.

NSW duo Star Torana (box two) and Are Jai Que in box six are also threats here.

Last year’s Group 1 National Futurity winner Rue De Kahn has been in terrific form recently but has not been handed the best draw in the second heat.

DEAN Swain’s classy sprinter has won her last three and is usually in the mix, but box eight is not ideal for a greyhound who is usually more dangerous from the inside.

Elfen Bale, another from the gun Victorian Dailly kennel, has box four here and may be a decent roughie for the series.

This year’s Paws of Thunder runner-up Kerrigan Bale jumps from box four in the third heat and will no doubt carry plenty of interest.

She is consistent from the middle boxes and has been in solid if not spectacular form in Victoria recently.

Zipping Abby (box one) has run some strong races at Wentworth Park and looks next best here.

The night also includes the final of the Group 3 Gold Cup (720m).

Space Star (box 4) is currently Australia’s best stayer and looks the overwhelming favourite.

He may, however, face a strong challenge from resurgent Sweet It Is (box 6) in what looks a thrilling encounter.
