NSW greyhound racing fans will likely not get to see him up close again but top sprinter My Bro Fabio will at least have one last crack at a major title.
Last month’s Golden Easter Egg series was thought to have been the swansong for the four-time Group winner, who has accrued close to $500,000 in a sparkling career.
An inflamed ligament close to his stopper bone had forced the gun Victorian’s withdrawal from the Group 3 Ambrosoli at Wentworth Park after he had already dropped out of contention for the Group 1 Easter Egg in the semi-finals the previous week.
Trainer Brooke Ennis (pictured with My Bro Fabio) said her charge is returning to fitness and is being aimed for next month’s Group 1 Harrison-Dawson (515m) at Sandown Park, with a run at that track next Thursday the first target.
“I daresay the Harrison-Dawson will be his last race,” Ennis said.
“He will have a second trial shortly and we hope he pulls up well from that. If so, we’ll likely have a crack at the Harrison-Dawson.
“Racing is tough down here in Victoria now with the likes of Fernando Bale and Dyna Double One around. I think whatever happens in the Harrison-Dawson, he won’t go again after that.
“He didn’t go too well on his last visit (to Wentworth Park) so I don’t think we’ll take him up there again.
“He has obviously been fantastic for us. Whatever he achieves now is a bonus.”
My Bro Fabio has enjoyed a glorious career, securing 26 wins and 14 minor placings from 52 starts.
The son of Turanza Bale x Flamenco’s trophy haul includes the Group 3 Canberra Cup last year and a trio of Group 1 titles – the Hume Cup, Perth Cup and the Temlee.
