Fantastic Pair Looking Good At Nowra

By Stuart Turner

Impressive littermates Fantastic Spiral and Fantastic Sid look ideally drawn to secure a showdown in this year’s Group 3 Classicbet Nowra Summer Puppy Classic (520m) decider.

The Jason Fletcher-trained pair, who were both impressive Heat winners and have a combined 20 wins between them, will both jump from box one in Monday’s first and second semi-finals.

Fantastic Spiral was the more eye-catching of the two siblings in last Monday’s Heats, zooming round in a highly impressive 29.61.

With nine victories from 17 starts, including two in good company at Sydney’s Wentworth Park, Fantastic Spiral looks the class act of the series.

He also looks perectly drawn with the red rug here but will face tough opposition from recent Group 3 New Sensation winner Lord Gee, who will jump from box six.

Local hope Silent Witness, who still looks a decent roughie chance for the series, has drawn box three in the same race.

Mako Man, who won his Heat in 30.40, has drawn box eight to complete the tough-looking field.

Fantastic Sid was a significantly slower winner than his brother (30.25) in the Heats, but was running from box five.

With a 29.54 run for the 520m at Dapto last month and 11 wins to his name, he looks a clear standout in the second semi-final.

Fantastic Sid looks head and shoulders above the rest, with perhaps My Boy Brodie (box eight) the only potential challenger.

Black Bear Lee (pictured), one of the hottest properties around in NSW, has drawn box four in Heat three.

An impressive winner of the recent Group 3 $25,000-to-the-winner Ladbrokes Magic Maiden, he finished second behind Fantastic Spiral in the Heat but still clocked an impressive 29.89.

That run was from box four as well so as long as he is unchecked at the start he should have the pace to defeat the rest here.

Heat winner My Gangsta looks the biggest threat to Black Bear Lee from box eight.

Ten races are on the card and action at Nowra on Monday starts at 3.31pm.

The final of the series, which is worth $25,000 to the winner, takes place on Saturday, April 25.
