Queens Of Wentworth Park Shaping Up Bracelet

By Jeff Collerson

Rue De Kahn and Queen Esther, who have now won 20 Wentworth Park races between them, show no sign of bowing out gracefully and are set to clash in Wentworth Park’s Group 3 Evans & Son Jewellers Ladies Bracelet series beginning on April 25.

Rue De Kahn, the 2014 National Futurity winner, took her earnings to $163,585 when she registered one of her "toughest" wins in Saturday night’s Rapidvite Bitches’ Final at Wentworth Park.

And Queen Esther, who turns four in August, scored her 14th Wentworth Park victory and lifted her earnings to $107,850 when she ran down pacemaker Barney Girl in a heat of the Ladbrokes fifth grade series.

"(Queen Esther) had been racing without luck before tonight," trainer Noelene Holloway said.

"In a heat of the Golden Easter Egg on March 21 Queen Esther led early and ran a first split of 5.31 but was dragged down on the back straight."

Before her race Rue De Kahn’s trainer Dean Swain was concerned about his greyhound's draw in box five draw.

But Rue De Kahn made light of her awkward draw, coming from third at the first turn and second on the back straight to wrest the lead from Lucy Lips approaching the home turn.

"An even better race for Rue De Kahn than the Bracelet is next month’s Group 3 Richmond Oaks because she absolutely loves Richmond," Swain said.

Ada Mary almost certainly earned a tilt at next Saturday night’s heats of the 720m Betfair Cup with a "clever" win in Saturday’s Ladbrokes Stayers Final.

Ada Mary overcame her tricky box six draw to win by a length from the consistent Amy Parker, who set the pace, in a tidy 42.59.

Trained by Sharon Grey at Killabakh, north of Taree, Ada Mary has now won 11 of 24 starts and is undefeated at her past four middle and long distance races.

"Her box six draw had me worried because I was concerned Amy Parker, who had box five and gets wide, might cart Ada Mary off the track," Grey said.

"But Ada Mary used her head and pulled back to go to the rails when Amy Parker started to drift wide.

"She showed a lot of track sense tonight."

Meanwhile, a drop in class from Golden Easter Egg company to an ordinary free-for-all paved the way for ZIPPING Midge’s return to the winning list on Saturday night.

Despite doing her customary right hand turn at box rise, ZIPPING Midge settled in second spot behind Knight Sprite and grabbed the lead before the home turn to win by eight lengths.

Her time of 29.81 bettered Rue De Kahn’s figures by 0.01 and came as no surprise following ZIPPING Midge’s solid fourth in the Golden Easter Egg final a week earlier.

See you next week!
