Cosmic Split Looking Out Of This World

By Stuart Turner

Unbeaten Cosmic Split and trainer Greg Brennan are proving a formidable partnership and the trainer is eyeing another win Thursday’s Albion Park meeting.

The sprinter jumps from box four in the Garrard’s Horse And Hounds Stakes (520m, race three) aiming for fourth win from four starts.

Cosmic Split’s latest win came in Albion Park on Monday last week when he zoomed home impressively over the 520m in 29.96.

This is a step up in class for the former Victorian but Queenslander Brennan, who has been training the greyhound for about four months from base at South Maclean in Logan, thinks another triumph is possible.

“He certainly looks a nice young dog,” the trainer said.

“This is a big jump in class for him (but) he showed brilliant speed the other night.

“You can never be confident, especially with young dogs, but I’m certainly excited to see how he’ll go.”

A son of Cosmic Rumble x Ferly Gain, Cosmic Split’s last win was his second sub-30 second run at Albion Park in two starts.

He is the fastest here but may need to find the inside early to ward off Magic Maiden (box 7), a sharp starter who also looks handy.

“I think he can handle this box draw,” Brennan said.

“He’s run two best-of-the-nights for me so far so he looks to have the necessary speed.

“He can do a few little things wrong in the boxes so there’s things to work on, but he looks like he could be handy.”

Double Group-winner Iva Vision has been running fairly solidly if not spectacularly in recent weeks and looks a decent chance in race seven.

Vizualise It and Super Velo face tough opposition but can win races eight and nine respectively.

Veteran Big Dac has also been running consistently recently and looks the pick in the 10th – his 156th career outing.
