Space Star Looking Out Of This World

By Jeff Collerson

Space Star is the one to beat in this Saturday's Group 1 AAA Radiator Specialists Association Cup (720m) but will face some formidable opposition.

Robbie Britton's three-time Group winner Space Star (pictured) qualified for the $75,000-to-the-winner final with a stunning 41.71 run in last Saturday night's heats.

Jumping in devastatingly quick fashion, the super stayer raced home by almost six lengths and will likely start prohibitive odds for the decider.

Lady Toy cannot be ruled out, however, after also winning her heat in impressive fashion.

She came home by almost eight lengths in an impressive 41.90 and the Victorian looks right at home at Wentworth Park.

Sweet It Is has drawn awkwardly in box four for the final but last year's winner cannot be ruled out.

The 42.36 run was a decent effort considering it was her first run in more  than four months.

Wide running Tasmanian Lillycette has box three for the final and looks a decent roughie after a 42.29 run in the heat behind Lady Toy.

Zipping Felix claimed the first heat, landing a long priced betting plunge in 41.99 and cannot be ruled out of final contention either.

He drew the awkward box five for the final but owner-trainer Marty Hallinan said Zipping Felix had given him signs of hope.

“After I gave Zipping Felix two 610 metre trials at Wentworth Park an experienced clocker told me only Mantra Lad had come home faster over the final section," Hallinan said.

“Even so, I expected Zipping Felix to fade at the end of 720m but he went to the line strongly.

“Just the same, he is going to need an awful lot of luck after drawing box five in the final."
