Stangafied Aiming To Thrill Again

By Stuart Turner

Stangafied">Stangafied is becoming an expert in thrilling victories for his patient trainer Jason Marley and the chaser looks a contender for another win at Saturday’s Cannington meeting.

Marley’s greyhound jumps from box eight in the Quaddie Time Trophy heat (530m), the night’s fifth race, fresh from securing a 17th win in 39 career starts at Mandurah last Friday night in the $5000-to-the-winner Great Western Final.

Stangafied started the quality final as a $10 shot but defeated $2 favourite Downlight by a nose to claim the trophy – the second week in a row he had won by the close margin.

Marley is still buzzing from those two wins and thinks his charge, who won both his races since returning in mid-February, from six months out with a split webbing injury, can triumph again here.

“I couldn’t tell if he had won or not (last week),” Marley said. “I just kept everything crossed and luckily he got it.

“It was unbelievable - it made all the hard work we’ve put in over the last six months getting him fit worthwhile.

“We’ve had some setbacks but we knew we could get him back. He has the ability to win these good races.

“He is better from the rail and his last couple of runs have been over the shorter distance, but in his present form I’m certainly hopeful.”

Stangafied’s best time for the 530m came nearly a year ago but he has the ability to contest for this.

He has a strong record from box eight and looks a big danger here, although  Free Candy (box 5) is in good form and could be hard to stop.

Classy pair All Strung Out and Starlight Jack clash in race two over 530m with both looking to bounce back from disappointing last starts.

All Strung Out has the red rug but Starlight Jack has a formidable record here and can pinch this from box two.

Solid chaser Living Proof (box eight) also has claims and looks a tempter here.

Take Extrovert and the ever-dangerous Romeo’s Comet to earn victories in races six and seven respectively.

Ronray Fury has won three of his last five starts and with the red rug in race nine looks a great chance to continue his good form.
