Blue Thunda Ready To Boom Again At Maitland

By Stuart Turner

Flying Blue Thunda will attempt to have her fans across the state cheering at Thursday's Maitland meeting.

Short course expert Blue Thunda, who has won an incredible 14 of her first 15 starts, jumps from box six in the Maitland Mercury Stakes (400m).

The John Miles-trained Blue Thunda secured her latest win at Wentworth Park last Saturday and has been one of NSW's standout sprinters in recent months.

You can expect to hear the roars from far and wide as well if she makes it 15 wins here in the day's eighth race.

“She’s got a big following now, especially out west,” Miles said.

“Her owner is from Bourke, she was reared out there and has raced at Dubbo, so people get together at the TAB clubs out there to watch her whenever she races.

“They know their racing out there and they are very keen greyhound people.

“You know this run has to end sometime (but) it’s really exciting for me.”

This is a first outing over 400m in more than a month for Blue Thunda after consecutive 280m wins at Wentworth Park.

The daughter of former Australian Greyhound of the Year El Grand Senor x Whinging Wrench, she is not the fastest here but has won once at Maitland before over the 400m.

Miles also believes the draw may suit his charge here.

“I think she will handle it perfectly,” he said.

“They come across pretty fast at Maitland and if you are on the inside you can get bunched up, whereas if you are wider there’s a bit more space to come across.

“I raced her grandmother and mother, so she means a lot to me. I’ve really got attached to her.

“She has pulled up fine from her last start so hopefully she can go well here.”

In other action at Maitland, Anita May produced a strong 22.31 run over the 400m last start and looks a strong chance in race three.

Woto Babe (race 10) also looks a good bet.
