Sokyo Looking Four-Midable At Bulli

By Stuart Turner

Sokyo">Sokyo faces a daunting foe at Wednesday’s Bulli meeting but Ron Oldfield believes he may be boxed to earn another notable win.

The sprinter jumps from box four in the www.greyhoundsBulli.com Stakes (472m), the night’s seventh race, looking for a ninth win in 21 starts.

Sokyo is also fresh off a superb victory in last week’s $8000-to-the-winner Dapto Short Course Puppy Classic and has a decent record at the south coast track.

He faces a field including exciting Jingjing (pictured, white rug) here but with two triumphs from two starts from box four to his name, his connections are confident of another win.

“There doesn’t look a lot of pace inside him here,” Oldfield, who trains the chaser with wife Christine, said. “Hopefully the draw can let him show his best.

“He loves the blue rug (but) I think boxes are a great leveller. It’s always a matter of which dogs are around you in an individual race that is important.

“He has run some fair races there and should go alright here.”

With nine other minor placings to his name, Sokyo has been a consistent chaser for the Oldfields since debuting in August last year.

The son of High Earner x Magic Capers has never won at Bulli but has placed on each of his eight previous visits there.

Jingjing (box seven) is debuting at Bulli and may relish the drop back in distance after a tough workout at Richmond last Saturday.

The exciting newcomer, who went from her debut to the recent National Futurity final in just eight weeks, was well beaten into second place over 535m at Richmond last Saturday by Lithgow Panther.

Sokyo is the fresher so may have the edge here, with Longneck a possible challenger from box three.

Jingjing certainly has a lot of pace, but being inside him should help,” Oldfield said.

“I never like to build my dogs up but hopefully Sokyo can go well here.”

Veteran Take It All (box three) can overcome the Christine Proctor-pair Inner City and Black Bronco to earn another win in race five.

Look for Spring Murder (race six) and Once A DRIFTER in race eight to complete the quaddie.

Cool Tifi looks well drawn with the pink rug to take out race four.
