Wayne Smith Stood Down

By GRNSW

Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) has immediately stood down licensed trainer Wayne Smith, of Cranebrook, for alleged live baiting offences under the Greyhound Racing Rules, as part of ongoing investigations with RSPCA NSW.

The action taken by GRNSW follows property inspections by RSPCA NSW in connection with alleged live baiting at the Londonderry property of Zeke Kadir in February. Mr Kadir has already been stood down by GRNSW.

Mr Smith was identified as a person of interest by GRNSW from footage taken of Mr Kadir’s property, which was supplied by RSPCA NSW. Three unnamed greyhounds owned by Mr Smith have also been suspended pending an inquiry into Mr Smith’s behaviour.

GRNSW inquiries into instances of misconduct, mistreatment of animals and persons of interest shown in the RSPCA NSW footage remains ongoing.

Members of the public who have any concerns about the greyhound industry, including suspected mistreatment of animals or integrity issues, are encouraged to contact the new greyhound welfare and integrity hotline.

The hotline is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 1800 680 174 or online at www.service.nsw.gov.au/transaction/submit-greyhound-welfare-or-integrity-concern
