Ginns' Spirits High After Fine Successes

By Jeff Collerson

It is a remarkable performance for a small bush kennel to supply 50 per cent of the field in a TAB track final but that’s what Cudal sister and brother trainers Amanda and Glen Ginn have achieved at Richmond this Wednesday.

The Ginns have qualified with four runners for the 400m Richmond Sprint Series after Amanda’s trio Raw Nerve, Amaretto Swirl and Starter Party won their heats last Wednesday.

Not to be outdone, brother Glen secured a fourth finalist for the family when Roos Ahead finished second in his heat.

Even more remarkable, the Ginns’ quartet are littermates by El Grand Senor from Minny Giggles, and have now won 16 races between them.

In the heats Raw Nerve won in 22.65, Amaretto Swirl in 22.75 and Starter Party in 22.84, with Glen Ginn pointing out the fastest qualifier has always been the quickest.

Amanda and I have nine in work and we have been having one of those runs all trainers dream about,’’ he said.

“In three weeks leading up to Christmas we had seven winners at Nowra, while Soul Breaking, who has won seven from 19 for us, won at Goulburn last Tuesday week.

“And at the Richmond Wednesday meeting prior to last week’s heats we had a winner, two seconds and four thirds.

“Training greyhounds is all about placing them. You can’t just throw nominations in anywhere.

“By competing occasionally against lesser dogs you can build up your dogs’ confidence and we do that from time to time at smaller country tracks.’’

Amanda and Glen Ginn are also proud of their November 2010 litter of six by Hesa Felon from Miss Bliss.

Vayetra, Midnight Ivy, Hoobilation, Wrapped Tight, Major Movo and Boombalata have won 89 races between them and only one was at a non-TAB meeting,’’ Glen declared.

Banjo Bewdy will be on trial for a trip to Melbourne to contest the Group 2 Launching Pad at Sandown when she tackles tonight’s first heat of the Ladbrokes Bitches Only Series at Wentworth Park.

The Justin King-trained bitch hurt herself when fifth at her Wentworth Park debut on January 16, an injury which caused her to miss the National Futurity heats on January 24.

“I have a ticket to contest the Launching Pad heats on March 26 but it all depends on what Banjo Bewdy does at Wentworth Park,’’ King said.

Banjo Bewdy takes on speedy My Lady Day and strong finisher Elite Arena while heat three features Thursday night’s brilliant all-the-way Dapto winner Twist Me Over.

She will reprise her Thursday night duel with Pad Tighe, while Justin King’s Cannonball finalist Miss Pocano returns to Wentworth Park in the same race.

Miss Pocano won a heat of the Cannonball but they were a bit nippy for her over the 400m in the final,’’ King said.

Even trainer Maureen West was surprised by Anita May’s fast 22.31 performance in her all-the-way 400m win at Maitland on Thursday.

“She had not gone too well at her previous start at Gosford so after Thursday I think Anita May might be better suited on one turn tracks like Maitland,’’ West said.

“Her form on our local Wauchope track has always been promising so it seems as if she likes roomy circuits.’’

West trains Anita May for her next door neighbour Terry Pearce, who bought the greyhound as a puppy from David Matts.

“Terry owned greyhounds in Sydney many years ago but Anita May is the first greyhound I have trained for him since he became my neighbour,’’ West said.
