Double Twist's Pups Looking Good

By Stuart Turner

Nine potential new racing superstars are first getting to grips with the big world after former NSW Greyhound of the Year Double Twist gave birth to her first litter recently.

The record-breaking star NSW chaser (pictured), who won 26 races and earned more than $140,000 in a super career for Nowra Hill trainer Garry Edwards, delivered the litter courtesy of sire Collision.

The pups, comprising three male and six females, were whelped at the Southern Highlands property of trainer Ruth Matic.

They have just received vaccinations and will now be placed in the hands of their respective connections.

“I kept looking at these little pups and thinking, ‘you don’t know how special you are’,” Matic said with a smile.

“They looked terrific and hopefully there’s some champions among them.”

The pups were delivered by caesarean section under veterinary advice.

They are all black, apart from one that is dark brindle.

All nine are likely to be in high demand and certainly have big paws to follow.

Double Twist was the 2013 NSW Greyhound of the Year and one of the state’s most popular and successful chasers in recent years.

Her achievements included breaking the 520m record at Dapto and winning a pair of Group 3 titles in 2013 – the Christmas Gift and Nowra Puppy Classic.

The daughter of Where’s Pedro x Tifi also won 12 races at Wentworth Park before being retired in July last year.

Collision has been one of the leading sires in Australian greyhound racing in recent years.

“I believe Garry (Edwards) will get first choice to train one of them and the rest will go elsewhere,”  Matic said.

“We were a little concerned as she (Double Twist) went a couple of days over the due date, but the pups and mother were all fine.

“I just wish them the best of luck.”
