Magum Force Expected At Bulli

By Stuart Turner

Ken Wright believes his exciting sprinter Dark Magnum could be on his way to bigger things – starting at Bulli tonight.

The Chaser jumps from box one in the Ladbrokes Visa Card Sprint Series Final (400m) and looks drawn to claim another victory.

Dark Magnum has won six of his first 11 starts and again showed his quality with a five-length win in last week’s heats.

Wright, who trains the greyhound alongside wife Mary, believes the sprinter has a decent chance of making it seven triumphs here.

“I expect him to go well this week,” he said. “The inside draw will certainly help.

“He needs room to move in the first ten strides or so. If he gets that then he should be okay.

“He’s an excitable dog (and) had a few bad habits which were hard to fix, but he’s done well.

“He has good early speed and he seems fine in himself right now.”

The son of Where’s Pedro x Spliced, Dark Magnum first caught the eye After zooming round the 400m at Bulli in 22.38 last September on his third start.

His progress was hampered by a two-month lay-off over the New Year period but he underlined his class with a 22.65 win at Bulli in last week’s heats.

Country Wal (box two) and Silent Crash in box four both have good ability but Dark Magnum looks capable of winning this, the night's seventh race.

Wright believes Dark Magnum will be better than kennelmate Kool Larocca, who won three races at Wentworth Park during 2014.

“He was pushed to go over the 500m (as well),” Wright said. “This one is the better dog.

After this I will take him to Dapto and Richmond over the 520m. I’m sure he can step up.”

In other action at Bulli, Martin Clegg looks the best bet of the night in race four.

The solid Chaser is stepping up for his first run over the 590m here but is in great form After a win last start at Wentworth Park and looks too classy for the rest here.

Darren Sultana’s Oh So Striking (box seven) is better drawn out wide and has ability so can take race six..

Son Of Harrods also looks drawn well on the inside to take out the night’s opening race.
