Zipping Geoff Looks Drawn To Star

By Jeff Collerson

Trainer Jason MACKAY’s latest hot long-distance prospect Zipping Geoff makes his keenly anticipated Wentworth-park">Wentworth">Wentworth Park debut on Saturday night and is expected to win after drawing ideally in the Greyhound Recorder Distance Challenge.

Zipping Geoff, who qualified for the race with a smart 42.03 Richmond 717m heat win, has box one and MACKAY believes this is the best possible draw.

“He wants the fence and is as strong as a bull,’’ MACKAY said.

“He knows his way around Wentworth-park">Wentworth">Wentworth Park because I trialled him there and he went real nice.’’

MACKAY is tipped to land a winning double with Zipping Carter also coming up with the rails alley in the Wentworthpark.com.au Stakes.

With just three Wentworth-park">Wentworth Park wins Zipping Carter is the least successful and most inexperienced runner in this free-for-all class event but MACKAY believes the dog is up to the task.

“He certainly has not been missed as far as the grade goes but he has finally drawn a decent box and is good enough to handle the rise in class,’’ MACKAY said.

Zipping Carter exited box seven to win a Wentworth-park">Wentworth Park fourth grade last weekend in a slick 29.90 but has recorded 29.73 at the track and is capable of going faster from Saturday night’s rails draw.

the field also features Melinda Finn's hot chaser Anything Less (pictured), who is likely to travel to Victoria shortly for a crack at the forthcoming Australian Cup.

Another trainer delighted with his dog’s draw on Saturday night is Mark Wilcox, whose rising four-year-old Knocka’s Return has box two in the Mark’s 30 & He’s Finished Law School Stakes.

Knocka’s Return is chasing his 26th win in 63 races, an extraordinary tally, while his Wentworth-park">Wentworth Park record is four wins and six plaings from 20 starts.

“He is not getting any younger but he has finally drawn a decent box,’’ Wilcox said.

Despite his age Knocka’s Return is trialling as quickly as he has ever gone.

“My only worry with him is that he has been beginning more slowly than he was previously.

“But after getting box seven in his two previous Wentworth-park">Wentworth Park starts it’s good to see him drawn near the rails.’’

My best bet on Saturday night is Bundy Bear, who had box eight when he won in a brilliant 29.86 at Wentworth-park">Wentworth Park on February 6.

“He surprise me because he had drawn the wrong side of the track," trainer Mark Davidson said.

“Pleasingly he ran straight to the first corner from box eight but Bundy Bear is definitely better suited on the rails."

Bundy Bear has box one on Saturday night while Lorella Fire, box two in the Adopt A Greyhound Stakes, is my value wager of the night.

She finished third from box four in a quick 29.95 at Wentworth-park">Wentworth Park last Saturday night and is much better suited from close to the rails this week.
