Lucy Lobster Fit And Firing For Maitland

By Stuart Turner

Charlie Lamb believes Group 1 winner Lucy Lobster is looking “better than ever” as she aims to maintain her impressive comeback at Maitland today.

Last year’s Vic Peters Classic winner (pictured) jumps from box four in the meeting’s seventh race, the Kerry and Terry Priestly 457m Stakes.

Lamb’s greyhound returned from almost two months out injured with a superb all-the-way victory over the 400m at Maitland last week, going close to the track record.

Trainer Lamb was delighted with that performance and believes the signs are good for his star sprinter.

“She’s better than ever,” he said. “The break seems to have done her the world of good.

“Her injury is fixed and she has shown us that she still has the ability.”

Last week’s stunning victory took Lucy Lobster’s record to a solid 10 wins and five placings from 19 starts.

It was the greyhound’s first outing since she injured a wrist at Maitland in mid-December.

The injury curtailed a notable start to her racing career, which included taking out the $75,000-to-the-winner Vic Peters in October.

Speedy starter Lord Licrick (box five) looks a tough opponent here but if Lucy Lobster can ping the lids again she will surely be too hard to run down.

She has a decent record from the middle boxes and with her early speed she should be able to cross early and take the lead.

Lamb said that, depending on her fitness, Lucy Lobster would be nominated for this Monday’s forthcoming Ladbrokes Bathurst Gold Cup heats.

A crack at the $250,000-to-the-winner Golden Easter Egg, which kicks off with heats on March 21, is also a possibility.

“For now, I just want her to get some runs under her belt,” Lamb said.

“I don’t like to talk up my greyhounds – I prefer to let them do the talking on the track – but she looks like she is back in form again.

“Fingers crossed she will come out and show us again the quality she has.”

Jungle Rum and Jedd Tokaam should both have the class to win from the squeeze boxes and take out races five and six respectively.

King Sapphire looks well drawn on the outside to take out the day’s eighth race and complete the quaddie.
