Winsome Prince Aiming To Reign Again At Bulli

By Stuart Turner

Melinda Finn is hoping Winsome Prince will rediscover the winning feeling away from the city and Anything Less can continue his good form when the star duo race at tonight’s terrific-looking Bulli meeting.

Exciting sprinter Winsome Prince (pictured) jumps from box eight in a high-quality Southern Engine Reconditioning Stakes (457m).

The chaser, who has 13 wins from 18 starts, defied a messy scrimmage to collect his first major placing with a third-place finish in last Saturday night’s Group 1 National Derby at Wentworth Park.

He has been a little under-par since falling at the Sydney track last month, though, and owner-trainer Finn is hoping a return to Bulli will help restore the sprinter’s confidence.

“We just wanted to get away from Wentworth Park,” Finn said. “He has been knocked around there recently.

“I’m not sure racing there suits him. I think we need to keep him away from there for a while and see how he goes.

“He pulled up well from Saturday and I am feeling good about him.”

Winsome Prince is the fastest here but faces a tough field including recent Gosford Cup heat winner Are Jip (box six) and dangerous Paua To Roar in box four.

Finn’s chaser has won four of his five previous visits here and having run at group level for the past month should relish the drop in class.

Western Sydney trainer Finn confirmed that Winsome Prince would likely travel down to Victoria after this race for trials ahead of the forthcoming Sky Racing Australian Cup Carnival.

Meanwhile, Finn also has last year’s Group 1 Vic Peters Classic runner-up Anything Less jumping from box one in the Bulli Social Fishing Club Stakes (457m).

Anything Less won impressively dropping down in grade at Richmond last week and looks a strong chance here.

Also featuring in this race, the seventh of the meeting, is John Chapman’s impressive newcomer Lithgow Panther.

Race six’s Princess Fox and last year’s Group 2 Dapto Puppy Classic winner Bertacious Bee (race eight) look good chances to complete the quaddie.
