Senor Laurie Aims For Ten At Gosford

By Stuart Turner

SENOR Laurie aims for another win at Gosford tonight but trainer John Miles is hoping he will not have to endure another rollercoaster display.

The exciting chaser goes for his 10th victory in 18 starts in the Smooth Fancy @ Stud Stakes (400m), the night’s seventh race.

SENOR Laurie produced superb come-from-behind run on his last start from box seven at Unibet Gardens last week, defying a terrible start and interference to power home impressively down the straight.

Miles, who is currently enjoying a great run of success with both SENOR Laurie and littermate Blue Thunda, said it had been a fantastic yet heart-stopping race.

“It was one of the most exciting races I have watched from one of my own dogs,” he said.

“It looked like he had lost the race at the start and he ran into the back of the six (but) then it was unbelievable how quickly he went.

“I was thinking, ‘what’s he done, oh no, what’s he done now’ and then, ‘oh yes’.

“I guess it shows that even though I’ve been doing this sport for 40 years, I still get excited at the races.”

A son of former Australian Greyhound of the Year and notable sire El Grand SENOR and Whinging Wrench, SENOR Laurie has impressed since debuting at Gosford in May last year.

Racing almost entirely at 400m level, he has secured good wins at Gosford and Maitland as well as the Gardens.

He faces track specialist Make A Fifty (box six) here but Miles thinks SENOR Laurie can triumph again.

“He can be a risky beginner but he seems to be able to overcome that,” the trainer said.

“I would like to see him drawn inside but he has had two wins from two starts in the seven.

“He is really strong and if he doesn’t win, he runs hard for second. I like to see that in a greyhound.

“I’m reasonably confident here.”

Another in-form sprinter, Magic Babs (box one), looks well drawn to take out race eight.

Jeff Jaeger’s greyhound has won five out of nine and looks a strong prospect.

Lorraine Atchison’s Spacecraft is a city winner and looks the strongest bet of the night in race six.

Murphy’s Law can complete the quaddie by winning a very even-looking race five.
