Good Judge Aims To Rule At Nowra

By Stuart Turner

Good Judge is fresh from producing “the run of the century” according to trainer Judith Fisher and she reckons he can triumph again at Nowra today.

The in-form chaser, who has placed or better in each of his last 12 starts, jumps from box one in a handy-looking Betfair Blue Paws Super Series Final (365m).

A son of Lochinvar Marlow x Cruise Oz, the sprinter has recorded good wins at Canberra, Bulli, Maitland and Canberra and looks a decent 400m performer.

He secured his seventh win in 15 starts in last week’s heats at his home track, producing a stunning come-from-behind effort that left his trainer delighted.

“I think that was the race of the century,” Fisher said with a grin.

“I would say he was seven lengths off the lead but he is such a tenacious chaser. He just seizes the bunny and says, ‘that’s mine’.

“This is the first time he has got the one box. We are not sure how he will go, but I think he can win.”

Initially a timid dog, Good Judge has improved dramatically in recent months after a solid but unspectacular start to racing.

He is usually slow out of the boxes but seems to be decent speed after the first 50 metres and has room for improvement after last week’s run.

South Nowra-based Fisher, who credits her success with Good Judge to showing “love and kindness”, believes the chaser may have 500m potential.

“He is a very fast dog,” she said.

“When he first started he was not jumping , so I think he has done really well in his career so far.

“We did a lot of work with him and he is coming along well.

“I think he is quite strong so we will try him over the 450m and build him up from there.”

This is the sixth race on the card and should be competitive, with Uno Topper (box two) and El Rose in box three also having claims.

Other strong contenders at Nowra today include Windswept (race four) and Magic Moonlight in the 10th and final race.
