A Star Filled Night In Perth

By thedogs.com.au

Star Recall has drawn the cherished red rug in the Group 1 Sky Racing Perth Cup, while Space Star has also drawn favourably in his bid to win the first Group 1 of his career in The Galaxy on what will be a terrific night of racing at Cannington on Saturday.

Trained by Jeffrey Britton, Star Recall qualified for the $140,000-to-the-winner Perth Cup (530m) with a 30.17 heat win last weekend – her fifth straight win. The favourable draw means the daughter of High Earner has rocketed into favouritism and is currently listed at $2.70 with Sportsbet.

Star Recall’s biggest threat could come from the greyhound drawn right alongside her – Astronomize ($3 with Sportsbet) – who will jump from box two.

The Paul Stuart trained greyhound set the fastest time of the heats with a 30.05 win in what was only his eighth career start.

A repeat performance of that run in the cup on Saturday night will no doubt see him in the finish again.

Of the other contenders in the race, My Bro Fabio ($4.20) will once again have to contend with box eight, the same draw he handled with aplomb in his heat last week in which he won in 30.47, while Quartz Bale ($7.50) has drawn somewhat awkwardly in box four.

While the Perth Cup is the headline act, the Group 1 Sky Racing Galaxy (715m) is also expected to attract plenty of attention with leading stayer Space Star aiming for his first success at Group 1 level. Space Star (pictured) has had a terrific start to 2015, taking out the Group 2 Summer Distance Plate at Wentworth Park in January before setting the fastest qualifying time (41.57) in a dominant win in his heat of the Galaxy last weekend.

The Robert Britton trained greyhound has drawn ideally in box seven for the $80,000-to-the-winner final given that he has a brilliant record from wide boxes.

As a result, Space Star is the clear favourite for the staying feature event, currently at $1.90 with Sportsbet.

In betting terms, his nearest rival is the Brooke Ennis trained Lady Toy ($2.90) who won the other heat in 41.84.

The Group 3 Sky Racing Perth Cup Consolation (530m) will also take place at Cannington on Saturday night with Dyna Double One looking very hard to beat from box one.
