Blue Thunda Goes For Thirteen At Wentworth Park

By Stuart Turner

Blue Thunda is helping John Miles have the time of his training life and the chaser looks good for yet another win at Wentworth Park tonight.

The sprinter jumps from box five in the night’s fourth race, the www.wentworthpark.com.au Stakes (280m), going for a 13th win in her first 14 starts.

Since debuting in March last year Blue Thunda has been almost unbeatable going mostly over the 400m at country NSW tracks.

This is her city debut and a first start over the shorter distance but Miles believes his charge can secure another win here.

"The box doesn’t really matter,” the trainer said.  “She is such a good beginner, the draw won’t hurt her chances.

“She’s not great in the boxes but she’s got such great early speed.  If she comes out with them tonight she could win by six lengths.

“If she carries on doing what she has been seen, she can win again here.”

Blue Thunda is a daughter of former Australian Greyhound of the Year El Grand Senor and Whinging Wrench, who chalked up 20 wins from 37 starts.

Her only unsuccessful outing was over the 307m at Bathurst four starts back but since then she’s a perfect three from three.

Blue Thunda, whose last win came at Unibet Gardens last Friday night, heads a current impressive kennel for Miles.

The 72-year-old has enjoyed recent success with Abunda (nine wins and 10 placings from 25 starts) and Senor Laurie, who has eight triumphs from 16 outings so far.

“I’m having the time of my life,” Miles, who works out of the NSW Central Coast suburb of Killcare Heights, said.

“I don’t think Blue Thunda can go any further than the 400m – not at the moment anyway.

“We might try it but you have to weigh if you want an average 500m dog or a super 400m one.

“She’s just a really good greyhound and we’ve been placing her as best we can – it has worked perfectly.”

Anthony Azzopardi’s Deborah Lee had a good win at Dapto over the 520m recently and goes again over the distance in race five.

Other strong chances at Wentworth Park tonight include Michael Benz (race eight), Carnegie Hall in the ninth and returning Hardaway Grand in the 10th.

The chaser has been sidelined for most of the last eight months but was building a quality record and if fully fit should win this.
