Chica Destacada Looking For Seventh Heaven

By Jeff Collerson

Addison Road makes her much anticipated long distance debut in Friday night’s 720m first Betfair Blue Paws heat at Wentworth-park">Wentworth">Wentworth Park while NSW Greyhound of the Year nominee Chica Destacada is also in action.

Addison Road, who has won four Wentworth-park">Wentworth">Wentworth Park races over 520m, finished powerfully to win over 630m at Nowra on January 12 and again to score there last Monday.

“Her run home times at Nowra suggest she will run 720 metres but until greyhounds actually go over the long distance trip it is really a guessing game,’’ trainer Mark Gatt said.

“But obviously I expect her to see it out or she would not be going around.

“The field does not look over strong and Tuavasa Shek, who ran third to Kiltah Magic and Serene Nimbus over 720m at Wenty on January 3, looks the only danger to me.’’

Chica Destacada goes in the night's ninth race seeking for her 15th win in 39 starts and looks well drawn in box seven.

Knight Sprite trialled a slick 30.08 before finishing second at his Wentworth-park">Wentworth">Wentworth Park race debut last Friday night and he is boxed to go one better in this week’s Wal’s Last Stand Sprint, 520m.

Trainer Gayle Masterson was rapt in Knight Sprite’s run behind the Launceston Cup winner Varcoe last Friday night.

“The dog had box one and I didn’t want that draw, he is better suited boxed wide,’’ Masterson said afterwards.

Knight Sprite has drawn more suitably in box seven this week.

Also exiting box seven on Friday night at Wentworth-park">Wentworth">Wentworth Park is the Luke Azzopardi-trained Jet Hua in the KW James 70th Birthday Bonanza Sprint, 520m.

“This dog is desperate for an outside box,’’ Azzopardi said.

“He didn’t do much from box one in last Saturday night’s National Derby heats but he drops to fifth grade this week.’’

The consistent front-runner Lemon Tree Girl has a great chance at good odds in the 520m Wentworthpark.com.au Sprint.

The Caroline Hughes-trained bitch was disputing the lead for much of the race before finishing fifth to Sapphire Crown winner Oakvale Destiny in a heat of last Saturday night’s National Futurity.

Lemon Tree Girl plummets in class to fifth grade this week and if she can begin as cleanly and display the same amount of early speed she can lead throughout despite drawing box four.

Foxy Nakita, a shock elimination from the National Futurity heats, is expected to bounce back from her ideal box eight draw in Friday night’s Macro Meats Sprint over 520m.

Foxy Nakita likes to use a bit of the track at the first turn and her wide draw should enable her to be close enough early to run down the likely tearaway pacemaker Are Jai Que (box two).
