Brooke's Fab-ulous Perth Cup Hopes

By Stuart Turner

Brooke Ennis expects dual Group winner My Bro Fabio to be “100 per cent” ready for this Saturday’s Group 1 Sky Racing Perth Cup (530m) heats at Cannington.

The chaser, who claimed his 22nd win from 45 starts at Sandown Park last Thursday, will face fellow Group winner Dyna Double One in the last of seven top-quality heats of the $140,000-to-the-winner series.

This is a first visit west for My Bro Fabio, who won last year's Hume and Canberra cups, but he has trialled well this week are flying over early and Ennis believes he can secure a final berth.

“He got back in form last start after having seven weeks off,” Ennis, whose husband Jamie has travelled west with My Bro Fabio, said.

“He trialled well as you would expect and seems to have travelled over fine.

“Come Saturday I think he will be 100 per cent.”

My Bro Fabio jumps from box eight and will have “big threat” Dyna Double One immediately inside.

“The only positive I think is that he will go left, which will give ‘Fabio’ a bit of room,” she said.

“I think Cannington is a big track which should suit him and from the eight he can navigate around them.”

The series has attracted some of the country’s best chasers, including a handful of Group winners.

Two-time Group 1 victor Above All, who has trialled well at the track and won the Silver Chief Classic earlier this month at The Meadows, faces recent Group 3 WA All Stars winner and local hope Starlight Jack in the second heat.

The fourth heat features an intriguing clash between recent Group 2 Cranbourne Cup winner Avondale Porche (pictured) and Victorian superstar Allen Deed.

This race also features local contender Quartz Bale, who has been near-unbeatable at Cannington and could spring a surprise here.

Astronomize (heat one), Deadly Vane in the third heat, Star Recall in the fifth heat and star local newcomer Tureaud in heat six look strong chances to make the final.

There are also two heats of the Group 1 Sky Racing Galaxy (715m) at Cannington on Saturday night with Space Star aiming to build on his first Group success.

The formidable stayer won the recent Group 2 Summer Distance Plate at Wentworth Park

He should have too much for the first heat opposition, with handy local Takahashi looking the strongest opponent.

My Mate Cobber is one of WA’s best greyhounds and with his favourable draw in box one he looks the one to back in heat two.
