Cyclone Simone Looking For Happy Return At Bulli

By Stuart Turner

Cyclone Simone has been sidelined for more than two months but trainer Majella Ferguson believes her high-quality chaser can make a winning return at Bulli on Wednesday.

The sprinter (pictured, red rug), who has 20 victories from 43 starts and is a multiple Wentworth Park winner, jumps from box one in the Bulli Tuesday-Friday Trials Stakes (472m).

It is a first start for Cyclone Simone since she tore a hip falling while racing over 600m at The Meadows back on November 15.

This is her competitive debut at the NSW South Coast track but Ferguson said her charge is looking strong and can triumph here.

“I think she is looking the best I have seen her,” she said.

“We trialled her at Bulli last week over the 400m and she absolutely flew.  We had been umming and aahing about her future but she surprised us with how she went.

“She has not had a competitive run at Bulli before but she is at Free For All level in the city, so we thought this would suit her.”

Cyclone Simone has enjoyed a notable if injury-hampered career, securing more than $50,000 in prizemoney.

Ferguson’s sprinter was racing well before her latest setback, notching four wins from six starts – all at Wentworth Park.

She faces some tough opposition here in the night’s fifth race but has four wins and a placing from six starts with the red rug and should be a strong contender.

“Having the one box is massively good for her,” Ferguson said.

“We were hoping to get an ‘easier’ run for her but this is a hard race. Fantastic Spiral (box six) is a good dog and Christine Oldfield’s dog in the two (Spring Missile) is also strong.

“We don’t have future plans for her at this stage. We don’t want to over race her as she will be very valuable as a brood bitch.

“I think she can get another win here (though).”

JODIE Lord’s kennel has been flying over the last two months and she looks to have two strong chances with Cawbourne Cobra in race seven and Let it Develop (race eight).

Encapsulate should provide some value in race six and can complete the quaddie.
