Barry Gogo-ing For Another Win At Gosford

By Stuart Turner

A change of routine has worked well so far for Gundal A Gogo and he looks ready for another victory at Gosford on Tuesday night.

The exciting sprinter jumps from box eight in the night’s seventh race, the Fibre Tech Medical Stakes (515m),  aiming for a fourth victory in five starts.

Trainer Barry Colless abandoned his usual plan with Gundal A Gogo, sending him straight into racing rather than trialling him in limited fields.

He struggled at first but the chaser’s last win over the 535m at Richmond on December 27 further underlined his promise.

“It’s the first time I have put a dog straight in with a full field,” Colless said. “I just thought it was paramount to give a young dog racing experience.

“He ran a third at Wentworth Park on his third start, so I saw he had ability.

“I took him to Gosford and he won his first start there and he’s done very well since.”

A son of Velocette x Candy Supreme, Gundal A Gogo enjoys his trips to the NSW Central Coast track.

He has won two from two there already, clocking around the 29.80 mark on each occasion.

The sprinter looks a decent wide runner and should have the pace to win again here.

“The box draw doesn’t matter,” Colless said. “I can’t control that – it’s up to him.

“He is a smart greyhound. He has a bit in his head, which is something you can work with.

“I think he is city class, but for now I’ll work him through the fifth grades and hopefully have some fun with him.”

Colless is a former electrical egineeer who has been a hobby trainer for more than 40 years.

The 75-year-old, who works out of Georges Hall in Sydney’s south-west, still “immensely” enjoys working in the sport.

“I’m always thinking about retiring but I wouldn’t know what to do without dogs,” Colless said.

“I gave it up once for about 18 months and I ended up nearly going round the twist.

“I only ever have a couple of greyhounds - If I had more than that, I’d be looking at a divorce – but that’s enough for me.

“I love the people you meet.  There’s good people around and I love the greyhound racing industry.

“I’m happy with it all.”

Mark Gatt’s classy chaser Addison Road looks one of the night’s strongest chances in race five.

The sprinter won well over 630m at Nowra last week, has built a useful record and looks to have too much class here.

Other good chances at Gosford include Nagini in race six and Avondale Charm in the eighth.
