King's Bewdy Wentworth Park Chance

By Jeff Collerson

Wentworth Park racegoers will get their first look at National Futurity hopeful Banjo Bewdy when the Justin King-trained bitch makes her keenly anticipated metropolitan debut on Friday night.

Banjo Bewdy, who is among several greyhounds King plans to nominate for next Friday night’s Futurity heats, has box four in the Adopt A Greyhound Stakes.

And while she has won two of three starts at Dapto, King disclosed yesterday that Banjo Bewdy has trialled well at the Sydney track.

“I gave her a look at the track three weeks ago and she clocked 30 seconds flat for the 520m,’’ King said.

“I was happy with that run and I have a good opinion of Banjo Bewdy, she is one of the best I have trained.

“I also have high hopes for Miss Sueko in the Futurity but although she has won races at Wentworth-park">Wentworth Park she has not run the times elsewhere that Banjo Bewdy has recorded.

Banjo Bewdy’s field on Friday does not look too strong and while she has box four she has a vacant box on her outside.

“Her hang-ups are probably Sid Swain’s bitch Sweet Runner (box six) who has good early speed, and Luke Azzopardi’s dog Jet Hua, who has box two and likes to use a bit of the track.’’

Steve White’s two National Futurity hopefuls, Foxy Nakita and Paua Explosion, will also compete at Wentworth-park">Wentworth Park on Friday night.

Foxy Nakita, a dazzling winner at her Wentworth-park">Wentworth Park debut last Friday in best of the night figures of 29.72, has box seven in the Macro Meats Gourmet Game Sprint.

Paua Explosion has drawn eight in the Bohemia Crystal Stakes.

“Although Foxy Nakita had box one last week I don’t expect box seven to present any problem for her this week,’’ White said.

“Paua Explosion is well drawn in box eight.

“When I first watched her finish fourth last Friday night I was disappointed but when I looked at the replay she had absolutely no luck.

“The dog in box five ran her off the track at the first turn so Paua Explosion’s run was a lot better than it looks on paper.’’

Zipping Angel has produced a winning trial on the eve of her engagement in Friday night’s Petsnacks Stakes.

Zipping Angel has box two in what looms as a match race between her and DEAN Swain’s National Futurity candidate Ella Has Class (box one).

“I trialled Zipping Angel over 400 metres at Richmond on Sunday and she recorded 22.60 which is a very good run for her,’’ trainer Jason Mackay said.

“She got to the line strongly so I think Ella Has Class is her only danger on Friday night.’’

I’m tipping Zipping Angel to lead throughout while Tap Out Rose, a great third at her Wentworth-park">Wentworth Park debut last Friday, is my value bet from box three in the Schweppes Solo Stakes.

Tap Out Rose had a tough run in the early stages but hit the front in the middle stages before chasing home Jumble and Zipping Saxon last week.

She should be improved by the run on the track.
