Lika Jay Jay Looking A Hot Prospect

By Stuart Turner

Lika Jay Jay  impressed on her Wentworth Park debut and trainer Brad Field believes another win is possible at tonight’s meeting at the Sydney track.

The sprinter jumps from box one in the night's fifth race, the Rapidvite Stakes (520m), aiming for a fourth win in 10 starts.

Field’s chaser ran a strong 29.85 winning here last Monday but could face tough opposition here in the shape of Flamin’ Go (box six), who has won her last two races.

Lika Jay Jay can also be an unpredictable starter but Field believes she may have a bright future.

“She is doing really well for us,” he said.

“My only concern is that she is a little tardy at the start. If she can keep up with them after the first sectionals, she’s always got a chance.

“If she goes well tonight we will go back down to the city.

“I know the Futurity is coming up soon and nights like that are what you aim for. It’s a big ask but you never know.”

Lika Jay Jay had wins at Unibet Gardens and Gosford to her name before last week’s impressive victory at Wentworth Park.

A daughter of sire Superman and dam Jamati Jamie, Lika Jay Jay has handy pedigree.

“Her mother won a Peter Mosman heat in 29.81 and had good pace,” Field said. “Her mother was Mint Solo who also had pace, so the bloodlines are there.

“To improve on 29.80 would be a big ask here but she is getting better, fitter and stronger.

“We are hoping that she improves with experience and gets better.”

Field has trained greyhounds for about 20 years while working as a carpenter.

He is assisted by wife Charmaine, who also helps rear and whelp chasers for other people.

With three children and nine grandchildren on their hands as well, life for the couple, who are based at East Gresford closed to Maitland in the NSW Hunter region, is never dull.

Things are definitely busy for us,” he said with a smile.

“When you whelp, rear and educate the pups and get them to the track, it’s really satisfying.

"Whether it's a fast or slow dog, I think you've got to put the work in. When you see them use the box perfectly, win at a good price and you get the reward for your work, I love it."

Other strong-looking chances for Wentworth Park Monday include Serena Fly High (race two), So Far in race six and Hamlin in the ninth race.
