Fancy Fran Aims For Five At Nowra

By Stuart Turner

Unbeaten Fancy Fran aims to extend her impressive record at Nowra today and owner-trainer Frances Goodwin believes her chaser will move on to bigger things soon.

The promising sprinter jumps from box two in the day’s eighth race, the Shoalhaven Shuttle Sprint (365m), going for a fifth consecutive win.

Fancy Fran won from the same box last start on December 30 and all of her wins have come at the south coast track.

This race looks a step-up in quality but Goodwin believes her charge has at least drawn favourably.

“This is a hard race for her but she likes being on the inside,” Goodwin said.

“She is a hard chaser and that makes the difference (at this distance). She is a determined girl and always goes for the bunny.

“She is looking for some more ground so we will step her up to the 500m soon. I think she will make it to the city.”

A daughter of Just The Best x Fancy Ranga, Fancy Fran is among a handy current kennel of chasers for Goodwin that includes Oceania, who won his first five starts late last year.

Fancy Fran improved on her previous wins with a 20.78 victory from box two here last start.

There could be strong opposition here in the shape of Country Gun, who looks a handy chaser for Neil Staines.

The sprinter has won four from six so far, all over the 400m at Bulli and with a best of 22.62.

Fancy Fran’s littermate Ticket Master (race one) also looks promising and looks a good chance for race one at Nowra today.

“She can really race,” Goodwin said. “She has been missing the jump but we have been working on her.

“It’s lovely coming down to the kennels every morning and seeing the greyhounds jumping around and ready to go.

“We’re having a really good run at the moment. We’ve bred and reared them ourselves, so it’s very satisfying seeing these greyhounds going so well.”

Group 1 winner Bessy Boo (pictured) goes from box eight in the day'ssixth race over 630m as he continues her step up to the staying ranks.

The 2014 Peter Mosman Classic winner slightly disappointed in finishing third last start at Nowra but looks strong here.

The Glenn Jenkyns-trained Vanderyaba (box one) goes for a fourth straight win in day’s fourth race and looks good to repeat his victory with the red rug at Nowra last month.
