Alan Hopes For Master-ful Win At Bulli

By Stuart Turner

Promising Master Gee may not be ideally drawn but handler Alan Proctor believes he should still have enough to claim another win at Bulli tonight.

The sprinter jumps from box one in the night’s eighth race, the Ladbrokes.com.au 1-4 Wins Final (400m), aiming for a sixth win in 11 starts.

A son of El Grand Senor x Oh Em Gee, Master Gee has won his last two starts over 400m at the Illawarra track.

Proctor would have preferred a wider draw but said his chaser, who won the Future Stars Classic at Maitland last October and looks a decent prospect, can win here.

“He would have been better out wide but he can handle the one box,” Proctor said.

“He usually moves a little to the centre of the track, but that’s his racing style.

“Now they have moved the boxes a little bit away from the rail (at Bulli), he will have a bit more room to move.

“He has a lot of speed and I think he can win this.”

Master Gee seems to be improving with every race and clocked a handy 22.62 winning here last week.

The strongest opposition tonight may come from Ruth Matic’s Conamara Max, who chased Master Gee home in the heat and is a decent country track performer.

Master Gee is shaping up as the latest star for Alan and his wife Christine, who train out of western Sydney.

The Proctors secured their first Group 1 win after more than 40 years of training in 2014 with Bessy Boo and their kennel has been flying over the last 12 months.

Among their other notables is Master Gee’s brother Lord Gee, who has won four from 10 so far and has been earmarked as a potential future Group contender.

“He has more strength than his brother but Master Gee will get stronger as he gets older,” Proctor said.

“I’ll take Master Gee through the 472m and build him up from there.  I don’t think it will be long before we see him at the 520m.

“I’m not a confident person when it comes to racing but I think they could be good.”

Recent Group 2 Dapto Puppy Classic winner Bertacious Bee goes in the meeting’s fourth race but will likely face a strong challenge from Good Judge.

The latter has two wins from his last three starts at Bulli and looks capable of pinching this.

Other strong chances at Bulli look like including What Will Do (race five), Yale in race seven and race nine’s Country Wal.
