Astrophysic Looks The Star Of Birthday Cup

By Stuart Turner

Exciting Astrophysic">Astrophysic  and former NSW chaser Walkaway Breeze lead the hopefuls in tonight’s Group 3 Mandurah Mail Birthday Cup (405m) heats.

Astrophysic will aim for an 11th in 13 starts in the sixth heat, which is race eight on tonight’s card.

The sprinter has proved a real star since debuting in October, claiming his latest victory on Boxing Day at Mandurah with an impressive 22.48.

He has won both of his previous starts from box two, from where he will jump from tonight.

Stuart, the owner-trainer of racing great Miata, has enjoyed plenty of recent success with the likes of exciting newcomers Tureaud and Quartz Bale and looks to have unearthed another good prospect here.

Seven heats of the $25,000-to-the-winner race take place tonight, with some of WA’s best sprinters in action.

Walkaway Breeze makes his WA debut tonight with trainer Emily Frazer and looks a great chance for the fourth heat.

The sprinter is a Wentworth Park winner and enjoyed plenty of success in NSW, so should salute from box five.

Look for Gone To Heaven, Last Day and Jabba Da Pup to be among the other heat winners.

All three are in good form and look ideally drawn here to book places in next Friday’s final.

WA racing continues at Cannington on Saturday night with Free Candy  (box six) looking good to claim honours in the night’s eighth race.

The sprinter was below-par last start but has three wins from four starts and has a decent record from the wide boxes.

Paul Stuart’s Ash Flash looks a class above the opposition in race six, with Oh Happy Days (race one) and Runaway Earner in race 11 also looking good chances to salute.

Box six’s Romeo’s Comet has taken out his last two races and looks the standout in the night’s third race.
