Tommy's Future Still In Doubt

By Jeff Collerson

Group 1 hero Tommy Brislane (pictured, white rug) returns from Victoria to Nowra trainer Steve White’s kennels this week but the Dapto Megastar winner's Immediate future remains up in the air.

"The latest X-ray on the cracked bone in his leg shows improvement so he’ll come home this week and I’ll start giving him light work," White said.

"It will consist mainly of swimming and I’ll see how he progresses before deciding whether to start trialling him or retiring him to stud."

Meanwhile, White has a more than useful stand-in for Tommy Brislane with Foxy Nakita scoring her sixth win in nine starts at Bulli on Wednesday night.

Foxy Nakita, who caused a sensation when she won her first race, over 457m at Goulburn in a scorching 25.47, clocked a brilliant 26.19 for the 472m at Bulli.

"She is from the same litter as Paua To Roar and has always shown enormous talent but her career was interrupted when she sprung a toe," White said.

"After recovering from that she knocked up another toe so Wednesday’s Bulli race was her first run back from a spell.

"Foxy Nakita has not been beyond 472m so I’ll now step her up and see if she can handle the 520m at Wentworth Park.

"She has had a couple of post-to-post hand-slips there but hasn’t been over the full 520 metres.

"I will probably trial her at Dapto this week and then bring her to Wentworth Park."

Powdered Donut set tongues wagging at Richmond on Wednesday when he clocked a sensational 22.47 at only his second start in a race.

But the 18 month old youngster’s brilliant win came as no surprise to trainer Hank Vanderburg, who landed the quinella in Wednesday’s 400m Richmond Maiden with Constable Sniff finishing second.

"Constable Sniff has plenty of ability too and I wouldn’t have been surprised if he had beaten Powdered Donut," Vanderburg said.

"They have each been trialling extra well and when they were educated the reports on them were good.

"Although Wednesday’s race was only over 400m I will be very surprised if Powdered Donut can’t run 520 metres.

"His run home time on Wednesday was a fantastic 14.27 which is ridiculously quick for such a young dog."

Lagoon Mytye’s proposed departure for a career in NEW ZEALAND has been abandoned following the dog’s second brilliant win over 618m at Richmond on Wednesday.

Trainer Ray Webster had Lagoon Mytye booked in to head to the Land of the Long White Cloud on December 18 but because there was a four weeks delay in securing travel arrangements he entered the dog for a Richmond middle distance race.

"He won in 35.55 and then on Wednesday he clocked 35.32 which is flying," Webster said.

"Lagoon Mytye has done most of his racing in Victoria as early in his career I sent him down to Terry Reid, whom I regard as an outstanding trainer.

"After winning at Geelong and Shepparton Lagoon Mytye went off the boil in Melbourne.

"He did have a fall at Sandown and that may have sapped his confidence because the dog made the pace to the catching pen but dropped out and was unplaced over 725m at The Meadows.

"I don’t want to push Lagoon Mytye up to 720m at Wentworth Park just yet and intend taking him back to Melbourne for heats of a rich 600m fifth grade on January 3 because it is at The Meadows and he is familiar with that track."
