Unbeaten Winsome Prince In Action At Bulli

By Stuart Turner

Unbeaten star pup Winsome Prince aims for 12 out of 12 while exciting pup Whittaker also goes for another win at Bulli tonight.

The Melinda Finn-trained Winsome Prince (pictured) has the red rug for race eight, the Ladbrokes Sprint Series Final (400m).

One of Australia’s most talked-about newcomers, the gun newcomer is being prepared for a likely crack at the Group 1 Paws of Thunder and National Derby races in January.

Greyhound racing expert and thedogs.com.au contributor Jeff Collerson believes Winsome Prince can challenge for the sport's biggest titles going over the next 12 months.

"I think he has got a good chance for a shot at the Golden Easter Egg," Collerson said. "He has the makings of a Group 1 greyhound in 2015, for sure.

"He looks like he can handle any track, big or small. He generally comes out of the boxes well and hits the ground impressively.

"He is good chaser, is a good beginner and has that fast early speed you need as well.

"He seems to be the perfect dog."

Last week’s heat victory in 22.55 was the latest devastating performance by Winsome Prince.

The boom pup was slow out of the boxes but then showed his lightning acceleration to ease to victory.

He has won from each of his previous two starts from box one and looks unassailable here.

Winsome Prince is a son of brilliant sprinter Barcia Bale, who also won his first 11 starts before losing his 12th outing at Bulli, and dam Winsome Shiraz.

He is part of a current star kennel for western Sydney-based Finn and husband John that also includes fellow boom pups Winsome MissionWinsome Jacko and recent Group 1 Vic Peters Classic runner-up Anything Less.

It promises to be a hugely exciting exciting 2015 for greyhound racing in NSW, with these newcomers doing battle with experienced star sprinters like Chica Destacada and Zipping WILLOW.

"Winsome Prince is from a kennel that knows how to run good races," Collerson said.

"It's very exciting to see how he progresses from here.

"It's great when these greyhound come along and you just hope they stay sound."

Another exciting pup in action at Bulli is Whittaker, who goes over 472m in the night’s seventh race.

He secured his eighth win in 12 starts at Wentworth Park last Friday night over 520m.

He jumps from box two and should relish the drop down in class to earn another win here.

Look for Neva’s Tree and Twelfth Man in races five and six to complete the quaddie.
