Magic Display Preps For Gosford Cup

By Stuart Turner

Magic Display has endured some setbacks recently but her connections are expecting a strong run from his charge at Gosford tonight.

This year’s Golden Easter Egg runner-up, who has 18 wins from 53 starts to her name, jumps from box two in the Road Tested Rubber Stakes (515m).

The race is a likely warm-up for the Boxing Day heats of the forthcoming Group 2 Woy Woy Poultry Gosford Cup, where Magic Display was a runner-up back in January.

After a below-par spell, the sprinter showed her best form with a 480m win at Grafton last start and kennel spokesman Len Harris is confident of another triumph here.

“I’m expecting a good race from her,” he said.

“She had a couple of bad falls and just seemed to lose her confidence.  She is only 25 kilos so it knocked her back a bit.

“She pulled up well from Grafton and I think she will really ping the lids here.”

Magic Display has been a standout for Harris and his wife Evelyn, who train out of Whiteman Creek on the NSW North Coast.

She has won six times at Wentworth Park and has been a consistent performer, with 18 other placings to her name.

This is a first visit to Gosford in almost a year but she has a great record at the Central Coast track, with three wins and two placings from seven starts.

Harris believes Magic Display has plenty of racing left in her and is also targeting a crack at the 2015 Golden Easter Egg.

“She means everything to us,” he said.

“We only have five or six dogs working at one time. They aren’t champions - but she is our little champion.

“Hopefully she can go one better in the Gosford Cup this year.”

The race, the fourth on the card, looks a tough one to predict.

Abunda (box eight) is a promising high-speed wide runner but faces her toughest test here.

Box seven’s Lochinvar Impact has not raced much recently but is a class greyhound and worth considering.

Other notables at Gosford include Betown Gem, who looks the best bet of the day in race two.

Look for Our Lady Di (race five), race six’s Seven Jacks, Elusive Zesta in race seven and Certainty in the eighth race to complete the quaddie.
