An Effective Return For Goulburn Cup

By Jeff Collerson and Stuart Turner

Silent Effective, who tore a hip support in a Geelong Cup heat on October 10, makes his race return in today’s star-studded Workers Club Goulburn Cup (457m) heats.

A winner of 12 from just 22 starts, Silent Effective (pictured) is having his first race start on the Lilac City circuit where he will jump from box four in the fourth and final heat.

Silent Effective’s trainer Darren Sultana has prepared the greyhound for the heats with two trials.

“He had a 350m trial (at Goulburn) and then I gave him a hand-slip and while he is on the fresh side for the heats he went well in his two hit-outs on the track,’’ Sultana said.

Silent Effective is suited on any track, it is just a matter of him being left alone in the early stages. I don’t think box four will worry him too much. Goulburn can be a tricky track but if he gets a clear run, he will be competitive.”

This year’s Goulburn Cup heats are packed with quality and feature some of NSW’s most exciting sprinters.

Mark Wilcox, who regularly races at Goulburn, has a strong hand with runners in the heats – Highly Respected (heat one), Natural Player (heat two) and Knocka’s Return (heat four).

Natural Player, who will chase his 26th win in 40 starts in his heat, is likely to be one of the early favourites for the Goulburn Cup final.

JODIE Lord’s kennel has also been in superb form recently and she has no less than eight greyhounds in the four heats.

Cawbourne Kayono (heat two) and Magic Earner in the fourth heat have both been recent standouts and look strong chances here.

The top two from each heat on Tuesday will qualify for the Goulburn Cup on Sunday (21 December) where $10,000 awaits the winner.
