Nyree A Final Chance At Bulli

By Stuart Turner

Nyree has been solid rather than spectacular so far for trainer Ray Magri but she may be about to shine in the Ladbrokes 1-4 Wins (400m) at Bulli on Wednesday.

The pup, who produced a career-best display in last week’s heats, jumps from box four in the final aiming to improve her already decent record.

Nyree earned a spot in the final after her solid 22.68 run in wet conditions last week at Bulli from the same box.

Impressive newcomer Dark Magnum (box eight) is a big threat but Magri believes his charge has a chance.

“If the eight gets a clear run then he’ll be hard to stop,” Magri said. “If Nyree can get out clear, though, she can go well.

“It’s about keeping up with them over those first five or ten metres. Once she balances out, she explodes.

“Her run last week was not bad at all and if she gets away well she can give them a shake.”

Last week’s victory made it three wins in seven starts for Nyree, a daughter of boom sire Fabregas and Mystic Pace.

All her victories have come at Bulli and with three other placings to her name as well, she’s already developing good consistency.

“That run showed she is getting stronger,” Magri said. “She came into the pen very strong.

“She’s not a 500m greyhound yet. The plan is to help her get a bit stronger and keep building her up.

“She’s not a world-beater and she’s a short course dog at this stage but she puts in every time and she’s improving slowly.

“You’ve got to be optimistic (and) I think she’s got a chance here.”

Away from this final, most attention for the evening will be on unbeaten pup Winsome Prince.

The boom youngster aims to make it 11 out of 11 in the night’s fifth race, the www.southernengines.com Sprint Series (400m).

Renowned one-turn track expert Natural Player looks a strong chance in race six.

Spring Missile (race four) and Sweet Release in race nine also look hard to beat.
