Frank Hancock hopes promising Breathing Fire and his littermates can start their journey to racing success in Tuesday’s Northern Rivers Vet K9 Reproduction Maiden Series (420m) at Lismore.
Trainer Hancock has four newcomers from what looks a very handy litter appearing in Heats of the $20,000-to-the-winner series.
In addition to Breathing Fire, who has already trialled well at Lismore, Laverne, Ilika and Lady Abigail will also represent Hancock on the night.
The litter’s parents were notable sire Magic Pedro and dam Pretty Malaika, a former winner of the Group 2 Tweed Galaxy who had more than 40 wins in a notable career.
“I think Breathing Fire has the potential to be anything,” Hancock said.
“I think they’ll all end up winning races.
“I’m not getting carried away but I’m pretty happy with how they are shaping up.”
Experienced trainer Hancock will be hoping the litter can provide him with an exciting 2015.
The 70-year-old, who trains alongside wife Edith at their idyllic Northern Rivers property at Spring Grove, has endured a mixed racing year.
He has enjoyed recent success with Spanish Queen – another member of the Magic Pedro x Pretty Malaika litter – but had to retire promising handy sprinter Mr Babicci due to injury.
“I just want to start the New Year with a few dogs to race,” Hancock said.
“Hopefully I get through this initial phase and see how they go from there.”
Eight Heats take place on Tuesday, with Anthony Azzopardi’s Deborah Lee (Heat one) and Midnight Tammy in Heat three ones to watch.
Fancy Arjo (Heat six) trialled superbly here last week and looks a good chance.
Heat four’s Kingsbrae Buddy and Knocka Round in Heat eight are also strong contenders.
The series concludes with the final, one of the biggest races of the year in the Northern Rivers, next Tuesday.
