Ginn Hoping For Perfect Final Tonic

By Stuart Turner

Soul Breaking may still have a lot to learn but she could provide Glen Ginn with the perfect Christmas gift in today’s Bathurst RSL Soldier’s Saddle Final (520m).

The promising chaser goes from box one in the $10,000-to-the-winner’s race and looks a strong chance.

This is the biggest race as a trainer for Ginn, who has been involved with greyhounds for the best part of four decades.

He has some jangling pre-race nerves but his hopes have been buoyed by the handy box draw.

“I would have paid a lot of money for that draw,” he said. “Amanda (Ginn, his sister) shrieked when she heard it.

“She’s a handy greyhound. She’s just not switched on in the head yet.

“The penny hasn’t dropped but when she puts it all together she is good.”

Soul Breaking has recorded two impressive performances so far in the series, including last week’s 30.18 win in tricky conditions.

That victory took Soul Breaking’s record to a solid five wins from 13 starts.

She is among a handy litter from Hesa Felon and Miss Winconsin which also includes Tamboti Safari, who goes in a 457m final at Goulburn on Tuesday.

Ginn believes the toughest opposition will come from Elite Arena (box five) and box six’s Second Line, who qualified last week with an impressive 29.85 run.

“They are all good dogs, but take the five and six out of the race and it’s very even,” Ginn said.

“If the five gets going then we can’t hold her out, but it’s slow early which may help our chances.

“Soul Breaking is also fast out of the boxes, which will also help.  They may not be able to get round her if she gets in front.”

Ginn, who works out of the NSW Central West town of Cudal, said success would be a welcome bonus.

“We’ve got more than 20 greyhounds here,” he said. “If you win a $1000 race it takes the pressure off, but winning this one would make it a great Christmas.

“I’ve been doing this for 36 years so I don’t get nervous, but I’m a little nervy about this one.

“I’m confident she will run a good race.”

Other strong chances at Bathurst include Steel The Best (race four) and Zipping Trixie in race six.
