Expect A Winner At Cannington

By Stuart Turner

Maturing chaser Expect A Guess looks good for another victory at Cannington on Saturday.

The stayer, who has placed in each of her last 15 starts, goes for a fifth consecutive win in the Get A Syndicate Going Stakes (715m).

A daughter of sire Turanza Bale, father of legendary Xylia Allen, and Expect More, Expect A Guess has proved a highly reliable performer for owner-trainer Christine Robartson since stepping up from 530m in August this year.

She is drawn favourably in box one here and Robartson is confident her charge can make it nine wins from 25 starts.

“I think she has just been learning how to race and got more confidence.

“We started her as a sprinter but these longer distances suit her. She has more room to manoeuvre.

“I think as long as she doesn’t get opened up or hit trouble she is up to it and can get the win here.”

The main danger looks like Ben Abercrombie’s Oopsy (box six), who has been below par of late but is a handy stayer on her day.

This is race ten of 12 on a busy night at Cannington.

Robartson said these should be decent value with another of her charges, Jabba Da Pup (race three).

He is a more of a Mandurah specialist but has drawn favourably here in box two and returned from a short break with a solid if unspectacular run last week.

Among the opposition will be Starlight Jack from the gun Paul Stuart kennel.

The recent Group 3 Young Stars Classic winner has secured seven wins in a row and looks tough to stop here.

Other strong chances at Cannington include My Mate Cobber (race six), race seven’s Takahashi and Chrissy’s Double in race 11.
